About the Project
The Turkish Metal Industrialists Union (MESS) has started to carry out the three-year “GreenSync Ecosystem: Connecting the Manufacturing Ecosystem for a Sustainable Future Project” as of February 1, 2024 within the framework of the European Union's Pre-accession Financial Assistance Instrument (IPA III/2023/ 450-101 European Green Deal).
The main objective of the GreenSync Ecosystem project is to contribute to the green transformation of the manufacturing industry with suppliers. For this purpose, use scenarios that can be applied by industrialists will be developed with the support of the Supply Chain Control Tower and Lifecycle Analysis tools to be installed in the MEXT digital factory, and pilot trainings for supply chain and human resources teams will be carried out. In addition, a sustainability maturity analysis will be applied to the 15 selected companies, and then a comprehensive roadmap will be presented to the companies.
Simultaneously, a Multi-Stakeholder Forum will be created with the title of the Sustainability Policies in Industry Forum to raise awareness about sustainability policies, address them from an industry perspective and allow academia, business, public institutions and civil society to evaluate them in a transparent and multi-stakeholder environment. The Forum will work to contribute to shaping policies for a sustainable world, climate-resilient economy and highly competitive sectors.
The Forum will be composed of 50 people, mainly from enterprises, non-governmental organizations working in this field, academics, public and regulatory agencies working in this field, the Forum will meet quarterly, and each meeting will focus on a critical issue for the manufacturing industry in the field of sustainability. Two weeks before the meeting, an online newsletter will be shared with participants outlining the European Union regulations on the agenda and analyzing the topic of focus.
As part of the GreenSync project, the installation of the Supply Chain Control Tower (SCCT), which provides end-to-end supply chain management of the currently manufactured gearbox at MEXT Technology Center Digital Factory, has been successfully completed.
The Supply Chain Control Tower is a management platform that supports data-driven decision mechanisms by monitoring procurement processes end-to-end. This system has been developed to enable more efficient management of production and logistics processes, optimize supply chain operations, and help companies achieve sustainability goals.

Sustainability Management and Supply Chain Transformation
Supply chain transformation is critical for companies to achieve their net zero goals and achieve sustainable competitive advantage. Suppliers are one of the biggest sources in taking responsible procurement actions and reducing emissions, and integrating the sustainable transformation of suppliers into the process plays a fundamental role in reducing companies' carbon footprint and pursuing social goals.
To create a sustainable supply chain, companies need to collaborate with their suppliers to set common goals based on transparent data sharing, move towards sustainable product design and adopt circular economy principles.
It is important to stimulate cooperation between the main industry and suppliers. For this purpose, the participation of the main industry and the supply chain in joint projects provides an accelerating effect for the implementation of the actions included in the roadmaps with the current situation assessment studies in the supply chain.
Within the scope of this project, it is aimed to carry out maturity analysis studies that will trigger the cooperation of the main industry and subsidiary industries and to publish an insight report on supply chain transformation. Strong collaboration between the main industry and supplier allows building a sustainable and resilient ecosystem, both while facilitating compliance with regulatory pressures and providing first-mover advantage in markets.
Sustainability Maturity Analysis (COSIRI)
COSIRI (Consumer Sustainability Readiness Index) is a sustainability transformation methodology introduced to the market by the International Center for Industrial Transformation (INCIT) and supported by the World Economic Forum (WEF). As the first of its kind, COSIRI is a methodology that helps manufacturers, scale and sustain their sustainability transformation journey, regardless of industry and company size. Please visit our page for detailed information and Sustainability Maturity Analysis click.
With COSIRI, the sustainability maturity of companies is assessed in four different categories: strategy & risk management, sustainable business processes, technology & organization and governance.
With the evaluation, the current situation of the company, the distribution of carbon emissions of operations, the business objectives that it prioritizes in the sustainability transformation and the benchmarking inputs in the sector in which it is located are revealed issues that need to be prioritized. The actions to be taken in the prioritized dimensions are presented in the form of a roadmap with the MEXT experience.

We held the first meeting of the Forum for Sustainability Policies in Industry under the project GreenSync Ecosystem: Connecting Manufacturing Ecosystem for a Sustainable Future, funded by the European Union within the framework of the Civil Society Action Grant Program for the European Green Agreement!
During the meeting, where topics such as “Circular Economy Action Plan”, “Eco Design Charter for Sustainable Products” and “Digital Product Passport” were discussed in detail; Alexandru Ion from the EU Commission and Elif Berrak Taşyürek from the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Turkey made important evaluations with their extensive presentations and analyses.
The multi-stakeholder forum, established with the aim of identifying strategic actions from sustainability regulations and supporting cooperation, was held with valuable contributions from participants from the public, private sector, financial institutions, civil society and academia.
We will continue to guide the digital-green transformation of our industry with our goal of sustainable efficiency by turning ideas from the meeting into actions!
